Aquatic exercise & therapy at the Y are as popular for the variety of wet workouts offered as they are for the great opportunity to socialize with like-minded members.
Adult Water Fitness Options
Water Fitness is a program for all ages that utilizes the buoyant qualities of water to enhance physical fitness. Without putting stress and strain on the joints, our Water Fitness class increases physical strength and endurance. This is appropriate for swimmers and non-swimmers.
Water Walk-Jog-Run is taught at a pace fast enough to improve cardiorespiratory endurance, enhance flexibility and improve body composition. Portions of the class are conducted in deep water.
Water Rehab/Therapy is a free opportunity for Adult Facility Members to use half the pool for individual exercising such as water walking, jogging or stretching. Individuals needing help entering or exiting the water must bring their own assistant.
Aquatic Pilates & Core Conditioning
This is a 45-minute water workout that focuses on achieving correct alignment of the spine, improving flexibility, balance and movement while strengthening the core muscles of the abdomen and back.
Senior Lap Swim is an open time for Facility Members ages 62 and older to swim continuous laps in half the pool. Swim speed depends on the swimmers present. There is no charge for Lap Swims.
Adult Lap Swim is an open time for adult Facility Members to swim continuous laps. Swim speed depends on the swimmers present. There is no charge for member Lap Swims.
Scuba Classes: Open-water scuba certification is offered during Session V with NAUI-certified instructor. Classes take place Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 6 to 9 p.m. Call the Aquatic Director for fee and other information at 773-3646.
Private Adult Swim Lessons
Private Adult Lessons All Levels offered as scheduled by the Aquatic Director. For those who may be intimated by the water, have little or no swimming ability, or just want to build and reinforce skills, private lessons are arranged as needed. Call Pam at 773-3646 ext. 427 to schedule your lessons.

Baby & Toddler Water Fun Programs
Infant & Preschool Swimming Parent & Child Classes
Water Babies – 6 to 36 Months Old
This is a parent-and-child class in which your child is introduced to the pool environment. Water adjustment and fun are the primary goals of this program.

Thursdays 10:45 to 11:15 a.m.
Fridays 6:00 to 6:30 p.m.

Dippers & Divers – 2- to 5-Year Olds
The Dippers & Divers class is designed to introduce basic swimming and safety skills while parents continue to swim with their children. This is a great follow-up to Water Babies and an appropriate prerequisite to Skippers.

Parent & Child Gym & Swim
A fun activity to develop your child’s gross motor skills
Each class begins with a 45-minute segment in the Gymnastics Center where the children, with your help, participate in age-appropriate activities that develop balance, coordination and creativity. The second segment is a 30-minute swim that allows your child to become oriented to an aquatic environment and enjoy being in the water.
Parent Child I - Ages 10 to 24 Months
Meets Thursdays from 9:45 to 11:15 a.m.
Parent Child II - Ages 24 to 36 Months
Meets Thursdays from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m.

Skippers - 3 Levels for Ages 3 to 5 (without parent)
Level I - Beginners
Children learn to move through the water, independent of adult support, and learn basic water safety skills. Bubbles may be worn.
Level II - Intermediate
Children learn basic swimming techniques and move toward greater independence. Child should willingly put his/her face in the water. Bubbles may be worn.
Level III - Advanced
Children voyage into confidence, increase endurance and learn swim stroke techniques. Children are creatively challenged, develop watermanship and learn more about basic water safety. Children should be wearing only one or no bubbles and should be comfortable in deep water.
All Skipper levels are offered during each time period and may be combined depending on abilities within the class.

Aquatic Safety Awareness Program
The YMCA will come to your Day Care Center, Preschool or Kindergarten and present this educational program that is designed to increase young children’s awareness of safety around water. This is a fun, activity-oriented teaching program that succeeds in providing young children with early knowledge of basic safety guidelines and procedures.
Note to All Parents/Guardians of Children in Swim Programs: A short introduction will be given by an instructor
or the Aquatic Director at your child’s first class in every session. Parents may NOT stay on the pool deck during their child’s class unless
requested to do so by the instructor. Parents may watch their children from the Observation Room. Parents who are uncomfortable with this
arrangement are encouraged to enroll in an Aquatic Parent/Child class.
Children’s Locker Room Policy: The YMCA’s policy is that parents accompanying children (ages 1 to 5) needing assistance use the
Boys’, Girls’ or Family Locker Rooms. Once children turn 6 years old they can use their own locker room or continue to use the Family Locker Room
with a parent. Children under 15 years old are not allowed in the Men’s, Women’s or Gold Locker Rooms.
Family Locker Room Policy: The Family Locker Room is for parents with children 9 years old and younger, as well as special needs children and their aides/parents. Children must be accompanied by a parent to use the Family Locker Room. Once children turn 10 years old, they should use the Boys’ or Girls’ Locker Room.

Progressive Swim Lessons for Children Ages 6 and Up
Swim classes are divided according to ability level. Each level has five components: personal safety, stroke development, water sports
and games, personal growth and rescue techniques. At the end of the session each child receives a personal progress report. If you are not sure of your
child’s level, please contact the Aquatic Director to schedule a brief evaluation to assure proper placement.
Levels/Program Names are as follows: Level I: Polliwog; Level II: Guppy I; Level III: Guppy II; Level IV: Minnow; Level V: Fish; Level VI: Shark

Water Adjustment - Level I
Beginning lessons that teach basic skills and safety; no previous experience is necessary. Bubble belt may be worn.
Beginner - Level II
Children in Level II may wear one bubble or no belt and should willingly place their faces in the water. Guppy swimmers increase confidence in deeper water through personal survival skills. Front crawl and elementary back stroke are introduced.
Advanced Beginner - Level III
No bubbles or belt are worn. Students swim in prone position with faces in the water, and learn the back crawl as well as improve previously learned strokes. Children must be able to swim in deep water.
Intermediate - Level IV
Children in Level IV can swim the front crawl with rotary breathing, the elementary backstroke and back crawl for one length of the pool. Side stroke is introduced.
Advanced Intermediate - Level V
Children must be able to swim the front crawl and back crawl or elementary backstroke non-stop. Swimmers learn the breast stroke and increase endurance in all strokes.
We guide children through all the learning stages of swimming. Upon completion of Level V, they are considered “good swimmers.” At the Y, you can give your kids the lifelong gift of swimming skills.
Swimmer - Level VI
Children must be able to swim the front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, side stroke and breast stroke. Children learn the butterfly stroke, improve stroke mechanics and increase endurance and knowledge of rescue skills. Students must be able to swim a 200-yard medley of any and all strokes previously learned.
Guard Start - Junior Lifeguard Training
For young people ages 10 to 14 who have passed Level VI, this training teaches safety and rescue skills. This serves as a well-rounded introduction for youths who aspire to be lifeguards. Inquire with Aquatic Director for schedule details.
WSIA - Water Safety Instructor Aide
Individuals age 10 and up who exhibit a strong sense of maturity and responsibility are eligible to be trained as Water Safety Instructor Aides. Candidates must demonstrate all skills through Level VI and be recommended by their present instructor. They will learn how to assist instructors in several ways, including clerical, supervisory, instructional and maintenance. Inquire with Aquatic Director for schedule details.

Lap Swimming

Youth & Parent Lap Swimming
Children ages 8 to 14 who are good swimmers are able to swim lengths of the pool using proper stroke mechanics. Youth Lap Swim time is on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m to 9:30 a.ml. Lap swimming etiquette will be strictly enforced. Youth lap swimmers should be graduates of Level VI. There is no charge for YMCA Facility Members.
