Step class





Fitness Classes


Balance & Stretch          
A stretch class with a balance and core strengthening component.

Class will mix elements of Pilates, dance, yoga and functional training. Each workout will use the ballet barre and exercise equipment like small hand weights to sculpt, slim and stretch the body. Must pre-register at the Welcome Center.

Beginner Weight TRAINING
Set in the Free Weight Room, run by two instructors who will set you up on an individual program. Fees apply, pre-register at the Welcome Center.

Get your heart pumping with cardio intervals using the step. Lower impact options will be demonstrationed. 30 minutes.

30 minute class focusing on the core muscles, abs and back. Utilizes a variety of equipment.

Class consists of high intensity cardio intervals & strength training to focus on your Power Center. Using a unique U- shaped 2-3 lb. weighted bar. A mix of high energy aerobic and muscle conditioning. Meets 1st and 3rd  Saturdays



Senior exercise program that is designed to decrease falls and improve daily activity. Works on flexibility, balance, strength training, and aerobic activity. Must preregister with Jayne ext 448.

E2  extreme exertion High-intensity, athletic, interval training in a cooperative environment. Train at your own ability level, and we will challenge you to push through and extend your own fitness boundaries. You have the opportunity to train to exhaustion – to muscle fatigue – because that is where growth happens best. 30 minutes.


Flexibility Challenge

This class offers flexibility training to tone and stretch the muscles. A gentle mat workout, this class is appropriate for all adults, even those with some physical limitations. 30 minutes.


Group Active®
This isn’t your old Group Active anymore, look for new style in Oct. Basic step, strength training, balance and flexibility workouts! This is a great class for new to intermediate exercisers.

Enhanced form of interval training (alternating periods of short intense anaerobic exercise with less intense recovery periods) Everyone works at their own intensity. Similar to Tabata / Insanity.


Be pushed to your limits, boot camp style in this challenging workout! Must be able to run 1/4 mile. Locations and activities change weekly - expected exercises will be posted on YMCA GroupEx facebook page by Wednesdays. Pre-register at the Welcome Center.


All activities will be done outside in teams, emphasizing support,
and confidence building. Runs will increase in length building toward
5k total. Sign up at the Welcome Center. Meets at Welcome Center. Starts July 11, 2016.



An intensive core workout that focus on supporting the neutral spine through muscle strength, flexibility, balance and posture. Emphasis on correct breathing mat based.


Unique class designed to build strength & gain flexibility. It’s about energy, power, and rhythm. Think sculpted abdominals, increased overall core strength, and greater stability. For the moderate to advanced participant.


Increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and balls are offered for resistance. Chairs available for support.

Tai Chi For Health / DIABETES
Tai Chi is a form of exercise that has demonstrated under scientific studies to have a powerful effect on health. It integrates the mind and body through slow, fluid movements.

Our instructors teach many different forms of Yoga. Levels are

Do you live and work with chronic physical pain? Then this gentle and restorative yoga class is for you. Focus will involve gentle movement, relaxation, awareness, and skills for working with undesirable sensations.

Try the hottest dance craze! With easy to follow steps, set to all different types of music. Be prepared to sweat.

Group Power


Water Fitness & Aquacize  
This class utilizes the buoyant qualities of water to enhance overall physical fitness.
Without added stress and strain on the joints, this class increases physical strength and endurance. Class is appropriate for swimmers and non-swimmers.
Beginner Water Aerobics
Increase your aerobic and muscular fitness and flexibility in a safe, low-impact environment.  Class starts with simple exercise combinations basic to water fitness.Confident participants can choose to move into more challenging and complex classes.

Water Rehab/Therapy
This is an opportunity for adult facility members to use half the pool for individual exercising.

Water walking, jogging or stretching. Individuals needing help entering or exiting the water must bring their own assistant.

H.A.R.T.: Hydro Aerobic Rigorous Training
This is a deep and shallow intense full body cardio workout. Resistors and weights and bench steps will be used. YES, you can sweat in the water!! Class meets on M/W/F at 7-7:45 am.

Cardio Abs
Cardio Abs : For all abilities and fitness levels. We will be concentrating on the entire abdominal region, hips, buttocks, and thighs. Class meets on Sunday’s at 11:30am

Aquatic Pilates & Core Conditioning

This class teaches you  correct alignment while strengthening core muscles.
 A 45-minute water workout that focuses on achieving correct alignment of the spine, improving flexibility, balance and movement while strengthening core muscles of the abdomen and back.
 Fees: Gold Member • $34 Silver Member $38 • PA $60

Adult and Senior Lap Swim
Time for Adult  & Senior (ages 62 and up)
Facility Members to swim continuous laps  in half the pool.
Lap Speed depends on swimmers present.

Water Therapy 1
  The YMCA-Baystate Franklin Medical Center Aquatic Rehab Program may be right for you.  Our program has a high success rate, with participants recovering much faster and to a greater degree. Ask your doctor if this is appropriate therapy for you. You or your doctor may call FMC Physical Therapy or the YMCA Aquatic Department for details. Doctor/ therapist approval is required. Swimming skills are NOT necessary. Register at Baystate Franklin Medical Center.

Water Therapy 2
We offer a continuing program for ANYONE in need of orthopedic rehabilitation.
No referral or prescription from your doctor or therapist is needed.

Beginner Water Therapy
For newcomers and those deciding whether water therapy is appropriate.
